PEDIATRICS

Therapy Services

We provide therapeutic services through occupational, physical, speech, and developmental therapy through a truly holistic approach. Our services are fun, rewarding, and empowering. Our highly skilled staff of therapists teaches children how to successfully engage and explore their surroundings while having FUN.

PEDIATRICS & ADULTS

Alternative Interventions

We believe that we can help both you and your child through less traditional methods. We offer parent consultations, meditation groups, and mindfulness interventions. Most commonly, these strategies are integrated into our more traditional therapies. These interventions help parents to connect on a deeper level with their children. Some of our alternative interventions include the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT), the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT, tapping), Superbrain Yoga, acupressure, and positive affirmations.

PEDIATRICS

Feeding Program

Whether your child is struggling with the fine motor aspects of eating, has delays in feeding milestones, or is just a picky eater - we can help! We work together with parents to carry over at home everything that is addressed in feeding sessions. All feeding specialists at EKT are trained in the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach which integrates motor, oral, behavioral/learning, medical, sensory, and nutritional factors and approaches.

PEDIATRICS

School-Based Services

Extraordinary Kids Therapy is proudly partnered with several schools and preschools in Rhode Island. Similarly to our clinic-based services, at this time we are able to offer occupational therapy and speech therapy services to children during school hours. It is our goal to help children succeed in school while improving their participation in academic tasks such as handwriting, speaking, social skills, and more. We provide evaluations for each child as well as consultations for their parents during IEP meetings.

PEDIATRICS

Home Consultations

Life is wild - it’s not always possible for families to come for clinic-based sessions. We are more than happy to perform home consultations. We come to your home, evaluate your child, and offer a fun and engaging plan of care designed to improve their skills while also strengthening your family unit as a whole. Our experts can also come up with a plan to create a home sensory gym with equipment that works for your home.

PEDIATRICS

Enrichment Programs

Periodically, we offer 6-8 week groups such as social skills, sensory-motor camps, handwriting boot camps, tummy-time warriors, and more to help refine specific skills for children who may need a little extra help or want to spend more time in our center.

PEDIATRICS

Tele-therapy

Tele-therapy sessions are available via video call for each therapeutic service we offer. Your child won’t have to miss out on any of the special attention they need! Our staff has been trained to provide fun and engaging sessions via telehealth.

  • At this time we accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, Aetna, and we work with all out-of-network insurance providers.

Out of network does NOT mean out of reach. We will work with you to understand your benefits. Our office will send an invoice directly to you with a superbill through a patient portal (no paper, no wait!). This superbill can then be sent your insurance company for reimbursement. This process typically takes up to 14 days. Some insurance companies allow us to bill them directly as OON providers, leaving some families with either a co-pay or no fee at all.

    Flexible payment options are available.

  • After the initial contact is made either through our phone service or email, our Extraordinary Care Coordinator will contact you within 24 hours. She will send you the link to fill out all necessary paperwork which can be found on our website and a place to upload a copy of your insurance card front and back. Our team will check your insurance before your first appointment so you will have a full understanding of what coverage you are entitled to. If you don’t hear from us within 24-48 hours, you can call 401-203-5444. We will schedule your screening/evaluation.

  • We will do our best to schedule you within 1 week, but depending on the waitlist it may take up to 2 weeks.

  • Extraordinary Kids Therapy can legally treat your child without a prescription/referral; however, if we are billing insurance, they may require the referral. Our Extraordinary Care Coordinator will do everything in their power to ensure reimbursement. We may ask families to get a referral signed by a medical doctor, nurse practitioner or psychiatrist to help the case.

  • You will be required to bring copies of your insurance cards and all completed paperwork if not filled out online prior to the session. Parents and child will tour the facility and be introduced to the evaluating therapist. If the child is comfortable, he/she/they will transition with a therapist for testing. This is usually conducted over one or two 1-hour sessions where the child completes a series of developmental movements, reflex testing, visual motor testing and standardized testing.

  • Evaluations are typically completed in 7 days; however, they have been known to take up to 10 days depending on the complexity.

  • We can not use a school evaluation since it is not a medical evaluation but it may be useful in treatment. Depending on your insurance we may be able to use evaluations completed within 6 months at another therapy clinic.

  • We occasionally have waitlists for “prime time” slots (3-5pm) but we always have slots during the week if you are more flexible or if your child is not in traditional school.

  • Yes. Depending on the therapist and availability our therapists offer Saturdays and weekly sessions until 8:00pm.

  • It is most convenient to schedule the same and time each week. If a make-up is warranted due to illness or family emergency we will do our best to reschedule or find a therapist to fill in.ription

  • Parents are always welcome. We believe family participation is crucial for your child’s progress and continued success. However, we try to encourage parents to take 45 minutes to themselves during their child’s session. This allows the parent to rest, regroup, and get a much needed break and allows the child to focus on the session and connect deeper with their therapist.

Due to space restrictions and privacy of others in session, we would not be able to accommodate this need during popular times of day. We will happily schedule a time or day when the facility is less occupied.

Siblings are not typically involved in therapy sessions unless this family dynamic is a primary concern. The treatment plan must include goals and objectives to address these needs and an appropriate time must be scheduled when the gym is not as populated for sibling sessions.
